A tastebud-tingling top five is in store today with the subject of Traditional Lincolnshire Food.
Here are the top five traditional foods from Lincolnshire:
1. The Lincolnshire Sausage
The Lincolnshire sausage is commonly dominated by the herb sage, rather than the more peppery flavour balance found in other regional English sausages.
Other herbs are often used and the sausages are characterised by their open, chunky texture.
2. Lincolnshire Haslet
This type of pork meatloaf is usually made from stale white bread, ground pork, sage, salt and black pepper.
It is typically served cold with pickles and salad or as a sandwich filling.
3. Grantham Gingerbread biscuits
Grantham is known for its gingerbread biscuits and the tradition is said to date back to 1740 when a local baker mistook one ingredient for another while preparing cakes.
His cakes became so popular and profitable that the recipe was passed on to his successors.
4. Stuffed Chine
This dish consists of salt pork filled with herbs, typically parsley.
The neck cut is preserved in brine and then deeply scored. Lots of chopped herbs are then stuffed into the cuts and the dish is simmered slowly. It is served sliced cold and showing the contrasting stripes of pink and green.
5. Lincolnshire Plum bread
Plum bread is a traditional Lincolnshire treat for breakfast or tea.
It contains dried fruit or raisins and some cooks are said to make the bread without yeast so that it is more like a cake.
