A 93-year-old man from the Grantham area has died following a road traffic accident yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the A153 at Speedway Corner, in Ruskington, at about 1.40pm following reports a Toyota Corolla had been in collision with a Vauxhall Meriva.

The Toyota driver, a 93-year-old man from the Grantham area, and his 77-year-old passenger wife were taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

The driver died a short time later and his wife remains at the hospital with serious injuries.

The four Ruskington people in the Meriva did not sustain any injuries.

The road remained closed until about 8.15pm while the damaged vehicles were recovered and police carried out their investigations.

Anyone who was in the area and saw either vehicle before the collision, or saw the collision itself, should contact police on 101 or the witness hotline 01522 558855.
