Arsonists are thought to be behind a 300-bale hay fire that forced a road to close.

The blaze started at Temple Bruer, near Sleaford, yesterday evening and raged until the early hours of this morning.

Sparks and smoke led to the A15 being closed until 7.20am and a nearby side road being closed until 9am.

The fire also spread to a nearby tree, which was felled due to its dangerous condition.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue believe the cause was deliberate.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious at the scene.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident number 531 of September 26.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Excellent work, scaryguy. Perhaps EGrover_LE could also explain how a fire 'forced' a road 'to close'? Which of these objects possesses an independent will and therefore could have intent? Did the fire hold a knife to the road's throat, or did risk from the fire simply lead police and fire staff to close the road? As for the nearby tree, was its 'dangerous condition' the fact that it was on fire, or did it just happen to pose other risks, like falling over on fire fighters? If firefighters believe arsonists were behind the fire, the cause was 'alleged arson', not 'deliberate'. Many years ago I looked to journalists for insightful and informed reports of news and current affairs. Now I am simply frustrated that they do not seem to question anything, but report exactly what they are told. What is required of journalists at university but the ability to cut and paste from press releases?
