Working at Blacktoft Sands nature reserve you start to notice more and more things about the reserve.

Last year, I discovered the different types of hoverflies that can be found along the trials during the autumn.  The more I looked the more I discovered that they come in all different patterns; some have stripy heads while some are tiny and others have large yellow patterns on them.

Since then I have discovered that there are 250 different types of hoverflies living in the UK and now I have a whole new interest to look forward to in the autumn.

So next time you take a walk, just stop and have a look at the wonderful hoverflies resting on a flower near you.
