Burton Road Fish and Chip Shop in Lincoln has been crowned as a champion chippy for the second year running.

Marking the start of Chip Week 2014, the chip shop has been crowned the winner of the Choice Chip Awards for serving the nation’s best chips.

The shop has beaten off stiff competition from over 840 chip shops as more than a record 62,983 chip-loving Brits voted for their champion chippy.

This is the second consecutive year Burton Road Chippy has won the award, and comes less than a month after the team was crowned Top Fundraising Shop of the Year at the Seafarers UK, National Fish & Chip Awards.

Caroline Evans at Potato Council, said: “Britain is truly a nation of chip lovers and Chip Week is a fantastic celebration of our great food tradition.

“It’s no surprise so many voted in the Choice Chip Awards this year – the British public feel very strongly about their local chippy and are prepared to take the trouble to vote to put their favourite on the map.”

Lesley Graves and Des Anastasiou who run Burton Road Chippy believe using high quality, fresh ingredients holds the secret to their success.

Des Anastasiou, who has been in the fish and chip business for over 35 years, said: “We take great pride in sourcing only the best locally grown Maris Piper potatoes for our chips.

“We peel, wash and prepare the potatoes in the shop every morning so that they are fresh and ready to prepare for each customer’s order, the same way we always have since we have opened the shop in 2002.

“We feel honoured to be recognised as the best chippy for the second year running and we must thank our fantastic team for all their hard work and most importantly our loyal customers who voted for us to win.”

Thanks InsideStory, I'm not surprised you chose to kick back - I love it, so keep it coming. I'm even less surprised you make no effort to refute the core substance of what I said and so will take it as read you now accept this article is not an advert placed by Burton Road Chip shop. Out.

It is quite well hidden now dean because it's set back a bit from the road. InsideStory - if you think this is advertising you ought to get help. If you'd been into this choppy before criticising them you'd most likely have stood in a queue out of the door........ Perhaps you should change your nom-de-plume to KnowJackButSpoutOffRegardless.

If the food was that good there wouldn't be any need in constant trumpet blowing to prove it the queues at the door would prove more .A good business needs no advertising word of mouth costs nothing .
