SUPPORTERS of the Cranwell Sports Pavilion project now have the chance to ‘buy-a-brick’ and have their name displayed on the pavilion once it’s complete.

For a donation of £3 supporters will receive a brick certificate, have their name displayed on the project website and eventually displayed on the pavilion when it’s built.

Ashley Newman, project manager, said of the fund: “Existing facilities here have proven to be sub-standard and have led to the football clubs moving away.

“Overall, general use of sports facilities is low. Unless we create new facilities the sporting feel of the village will completely go away and current and future generations will have no sporting facilities in the parish.

“Using the RAF facilities doesn't always work in the best interests of the village. And certainly, having to travel to neighbouring towns is not practical to everyone.”

Last year the fund raised £2,800 through local parish events and at the start of this year the Parish Council donated £1,000 towards the project fund.

In total the fund aims to raise £200,000, most of which will be applied for through grants, but it is estimated that £20,000 is needed locally before applications for grants can be made.

Mr Newman added: “Youth facilities in the village are extremely few and far between. It is hoped that more events could be held at the pavilion to attract their participation. Additionally, current sporting opportunities for the retired residents of the parish are also limited.

“We've already started negotiations with a few potential builders and designers in an attempt to acquire initial outline plans and confirmation of the project cost estimate.”

Meetings of the group are held every two months and the next will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, March 26, in the Cranwell Village Hall meeting room.

A fundraising table top and car-boot sale will also take place on Sunday, March 24, at Cranwell Village Hall and car-park.
