If there’s one destination that features on nearly every dream holiday list, it’s a getaway to the Caribbean. And if there’s one perfect way to see this tropical paradise, it is undoubtedly by ship. The only challenging thing about booking a Caribbean cruise is choosing which destination to head to first. Here’s a look at three of the possible destinations on a Caribbean cruise itinerary and some of the activities available at each. Be warned, it doesn’t make your decision any easier when you see the full range which is on offer!

With a vibrant local culture and stunning natural scenery, there’s a great deal to love about cruise holidays to Mexico. Mexico is a country characterised by the meeting of the ancient and the new, with luxury tourist destinations bordering the ruins of the ancient Aztec civilisations. It’s also a destination that ebbs and flows to its unique rhythm, guided by the sexy beats of the salsa which plays late into the night. Picturesque coastal reefs are available for water sports enthusiasts. There’s also plenty of exploring to be done, both in the nearby jungle and the fascinating local towns and cities.

Grand Cayman

This is a cruise destination for people who want a little bit more than just margaritas by the pool. While there’s plenty of time for sun loungers and cocktails on board the Oasis of the Seas, when you dock at the largest of the three Cayman Islands, it’s time to explore something truly unique. Take an expedition 100ft under the water to explore the incredible coral canyons in an air-conditioned submarine capsule. Dare yourself to swim with the rays in Stingray city (or maybe just the dolphins) and finish your day by taking a helicopter ride to see the stunning coastline by air. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can simply hire a bike and explore the laid back local area. With names on the map like 7-Mile beach, what more could you want?

Puerto Rico

This island mixes the glamorous life of resorts, casinos and nightlife with untouched rainforests. The juxtaposition of fast-paced glitzy life with the untamed natural world makes for a fascinating port during your trip on board the Grandeur of the Seas. Take a visit to the Bacardi Rum Distillery for samples, explore the stunning rainforests and take a dip in the waterfalls. Be sure to marvel at both the old and the new architecture, including a trip to the 17th century Fort San Cristobal.
