Cleethorpes Pier failed to reach its reserve price at an auction yesterday.

Swindells Auctioneers, based near Brant Broughton, had been hoping to sell the landmark for at least £400,000.

But the highest bid was £10,000 short.

Interested parties now have 28 days to strike a deal with the site vendor Bryn Ilsley.

Auctioneer Edward Swindells said: "It's disappointing as we were so close but I am confident that a post-auction deal will be struck."

The event was held last night at the pier on the North Lincolnshire coast.

For £400K I'd expect to own the whole of Cleethorpes not just a rusty old building in the sea
