The number of people out of work and claiming benefit in Lincolnshire increased in the final part of 2013.

Figures released by the National Office for Statistics show there were 12,169 people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance in the Lincolnshire County Council area at the end of December – an increase of 226 on the previous month.

There were 2,655 people claiming the benefit in the City of Lincoln Council area, which is an increase of six people on the previous month. However, levels in both areas are still much lower than in the same month the previous year, when a total of 17,660 people were out of work and claiming the benefit, compared to 14,824 at the end of last month.
