A WORKER from the Sleaford headquarters of the Lincolnshire Community Health Services team is selling home-made produce to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Claire Taylor, from Horncastle is selling home-made chutney, jams and fudge made from locally-sourced products to help support a medical charity in Nicaragua after she was helped following serious motorbike accident in the country.

When travelling on Isla Ometepe in January, Claire and her husband Carl were involved in an accident which left her with a badly injured knee, needing surgery.

After a painful wait by the road-side Claire and Carl were picked up by medics from SIFT (Seed International Fund Trust) who looked after the pair and transported them to hospital.

Claire said: “It was a really scary time but SIFT took great care of us.

“My knee was badly injured and I was in hospital in the capital Managua for eight days for knee surgeries and it has been a long and continued road to recovery.

“I owe my life to the amazing doctors who helped me out there.”

Claire is combining her love of making preserves and fudge together with trying to raise money to help the charity which works on the very remote island.

Her mini-hampers will make ideal Christmas gifts while helping to support health projects in the country which is one of the poorest countries in Central America.

The organisation’s aim is to provide high quality and affordable primary healthcare to rural communities on the island.

The jars of chutneys and jams are between 340g and 500g and gift bags of Claire’s products are available from £6. Claire is able to deliver to people living in the Sleaford area.

Claire added: “I’m hoping to raise about £200 plus the extra money from gift-aid to boost the donation.”

The products on offer include ‘Glutney’ chutney (a River Cottage recipe) or kiwi fruit chutney; plum or bramble and apple jam; chocolate, white chocolate or Maltesers fudge; and spicy pickled pears.
