A TRIO of One Direction fans from a Sleaford high school have raised more than £1,400 to support a charity for terminally ill children.

Katie Graham, Caitlin Ditchfield, and Katy Dodds, all in Year 11 at Kesteven and Sleaford High School Selective Academy (KSHSSA) were inspired when their favourite pop-group did some charity work for the charity Believe in Magic earlier this year.

The three girls have held a series of fund-raising events over the last six months including cake sales, non-uniform days, a school disco and a two-day expedition to raise money and awareness for the same cause.

Katie said: “We heard about the charity through One Direction and as we’re big fans – and it’s such a good cause we thought we’d like to get involved in raising some money for them too.”

Believe in Magic is a charity that arranges once-in-a-lifetime experiences for seriously or terminally ill children such as meeting their favourite celebrity, publishing a book or riding in a racing car.

In June the three girls completed a sponsored two-day expedition from Morton to Folkingham and back as part of the fund-raising.

The girls have sent a cheque for the money raised to the charity and have also sent an email to One Direction’s management to let them know what they’ve done.

Headteacher at KSHSSA Craig Booker said: “We are really proud that the girls have taken the initiative to set this all up themselves.”

Next year the girls plan to do more charity work depending in how much school work they have to do.

Katie added: “We’d really love to put on a concert at the school but will have to see how much time our studies take up.”

Well done girls, I wish some celebrity or rich person would stand up and match pound for pound what young people like these raise.
