A group of travellers have set up camp at Hartsholme Country Park.

The group of approximately 15 vans arrived last night.

Dave Charysz, open spaces officer at City of Lincoln Council, said: “We are aware travellers arrived on the campsite at Hartsholme Country Park late on Tuesday night.

“We carried out an initial needs assessment on Wednesday morning and we are liaising with the police and the county council about what action to take.

“We will consider the options in accordance with the Joint Protocol on Unauthorised Encampments in Lincolnshire.”

It is not known whether or not the travellers at the site are heading on to Skegness for the weekend where there is rumoured to be 2,000 travellers arriving for a wedding.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police confirmed that officers are working with the council to keep an eye on the situation but they added that no criminal offences had taken place.

Let sleeping dogs lie I wish i was part of a group that didnt have to pay tax , pay to be on holiday sites and have people assesing my needs. We can all resent these travellers but its the law and public authoritys that have let us down at the end of the day. As for them dumping rubbish at Hartsholme it sounds like an alternative and cheaper way instead of paying for my green bin.

these are rude and intimidating people we should not have to assess their needs, they so obviously dont need toilets or showers as they only want to trash them along with everything else, no respect for other people or their property, who is going to assess the needs of the honest paying visitors and other members of the public who want to use the park, surely we have rights to, and, what about the staff are City Hall assessing their needs and are they expected to clean up after these people. How much is this all going to cost us, the ones who have to pay our council tax, can we re-assess that too.

"How can they say "no criminal offence has taken place" when clearly they are parked up on pay per night land?" Because that's what we call a 'civil offence' - hurrrr!

How can they say "no criminal offence has taken place" when clearly they are parked up on pay per night land? If they have rights to stay for free, then it's the council who are committing the crime by charging us common folk a fee to stay here. I'm applying for a refund

If a 'normal' family just turned up without booking and did not pay, they would be removed immediately. It is so unfair for pre-booked holiday makers to have their holiday ruined. Will they return to Lincoln? I very much doubt it. Come on Police and Lincoln Council get your fingers out and do something before the weekend.

Do you want to set up camp anywhere, maybe park illegally in any random car park? Grab yourselves a car and a caravan, call yourself a traveller and go anywhere you like. Oh yeah nearly forgot, its FREE!
