A superb header from Darryn Stamp ensured that Gainsborough Trinity finished level with Wrexham at half-time in their FA Trophy semi-final first leg at the Racecourse.

Wrexham went ahead on 18 minutes. Brett Omerod's stinging effort was blocked by Jan Budtz and in swept Danny Wright to score.

Trinity hit back on 27 minutes. Jamie Yates battled into the Wrexham box on the left-hand side and crossed to Darryn Stamp who was waiting at the far post to head home with Chris Maxwell well beaten.

Gainsborough then had their best spell of the game, with a clever run by Terry Hawkridge ending with the winger crossing to Danny Hone at the far post, sadly the defender could only find the side netting.

Wrexham turned the screw as the end of the half approached, but they could not find the goal their play deserved.
