HUMAN remains found in a field by a dog walker could be those of a Stamford man who went missing six years ago.
The grisly discovery was made just after 2pm on Monday in a dyke outside Pilsgate, near Stamford.
Cambridgeshire Police are understood to be in contact with the family of Robert Carroll who went missing from his home in Stamford on February 20, 2006, aged 40.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called shortly after 2pm on Monday to reports that a dog walker had found some human remains in a dyke near Pilsgate.
"The remains have been recovered and inquiries are underway to establish the identity."
He added that there was nothing to suggest that the death was suspicious.
The identity should be confirmed later today.
