An illegal immigrant has been detained following a raid on a Lincoln kebab shop.

Officers from the UK Border Agency, supported by Lincolnshire Police officers, visited Poppins Takeaway, in Corporation Street at 6.45pm on September 11.

As officers approached the building, they spotted a man painting the outside of the kebab shop.

He was escorted into the shop for questioning but attempted to flee from the rear entrance where he was stopped by an officer that had already secured it.

Checks showed that the man was a Turkish national who had illegally entered the UK.

He was arrested and taken into custody at Lincoln Police Station.

Action will now be taken to remove him from the UK as soon as possible.

Rachel Challis, from the UK Border Agency in Lincolnshire, said: "We are cracking down on immigration abuse across the county.

"Any foreign national who is in the UK illegally should be in no doubt that they will be found, arrested and removed from the country and businesses that take on illegal workers face heavy fines and possible prosecution."

A story for you all. On one of my visits to London for chemotherapy couple years back, was on a train in East London...doors opened and a big group of young East Europeans go it and sat around me. "Polish" I thought ...but no--they were all speaking Russian...which I can understand a fair bit. ok....latvians or lithuanians I thought.....but no...their facial features were different from the Baltic countries....So I listened on in interest. Struck up a conversation with one friendly young chap....Oh im Russian, this one is Belarussian, these 2 Ukrainian, ,...the other five from Moldova. None of the EU countries, so no work rights. The conversation went on.....Hes a builder, hes a painter, they work in shops, I work in a restaurant. I so wished Blair and Brown had been with me to see the pandoras box they had opened explode in their faces.

Looks like you've been waiting for "it", eight and a half hours Marbo1. What "it" is, I don't know. If you want debate, then here's my take on it. Well done to the UKBA. Please don't waste money putting him into a detention centre, or on bail, where he will maybe abscond. Just take him to where he was staying, allow him to collect his belongings and then put him on a flight back to his homeland.

He's probably out on "bail" while they sort out his deportation and off down the road laughing at our "system"!
