Alex Lowes admits he needs to turn promise into big points when the British Superbike Championship reaches Knockhill this weekend.

Lowes' WFR Honda team have made a slow start to the season, leaving the Lincoln rider playing catch-up on the leading riders in the standings.

The 21-year-old must be in the top six after round nine at Donington Park to reach the Showdown and earn the chance to become British champion.

However, there were definite signs of improvement at Snetterton last time out when he finished fifth and sixth.

Lowes knows that upward momentum must continue over the summer.

"I need to start getting into the top five and start to claw back some points in the championship," said Lowes, who is 25 points behind Stuart Easton in the final Showdown spot.

"I feel like we are getting closer to a podium, but we don't need to be just close, we need to be there.

"My target is to get into the Showdown and get into a position to win the championship. We are fast enough."

Meanwhile, Samsung Honda rider Michael Laverty admits he's itching to get back into British Superbike action this weekend in a bid to prove his recent good form has been no fluke.

Laverty enjoyed a near-perfect weekend for the Louth-based team at Snetterton, where he finished first and second.

"The important thing going into Knockhill is to keep the ball rolling," he said.

"We've known since pre-season that we have the pace so it was nice to prove that to the rest of the field at Snetterton."
