GENEROUS customers at a charity shop in Ingoldmells have helped to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Helen Cullen of the Support Shop, Queensway, was delighted to hand over the shop’s biggest donation since opening its doors three years ago.

She said: “This is the first time we have supported a charity such as Macmillan as we normally support children’s or animal charities.

“We decided on Macmillan as near enough everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and many of our donations are from bereaved relatives.”

Helen presented the cheque to Macmillan fundraising manager, Tanya Taylor, who said the funds will be used in a range of ways.

She said: “This amount is absolutely fantastic and will go a long way to support our infamous Macmillan Nurses, supporting families and our website.

“I would like to thank Helen and her team and all of her generous customers who have raised such a fantastic amount.”

Now in its third year this is the sixth donation that the shop has made after it was originally opened to specifically support local causes including The Ark animal rescue centre in North Somercotes, St Andrew’s Hospice, Coastwatch and Xsite skate park.

Helen added: “We are desperately in need of more donations, particularly bedding and clothing but will welcome any items.

“We are also able to collect small items of furniture.”

The Support Shop is open Monday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and on Sundays between 10am and 3pm.

To make a donation, call Helen on 07889 937749.
