JERRY Green Dog Rescue near Boston is asking people to give a dog the gift of love this Valentine’s Day.
The charity, which has a centre in Algarkirk and in four other locations across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, is urging dog lovers to donate a shoebox full of doggie treats as part of its Love Us, Love Our Dogs campaign.
The charity is currently looking to re-home around 150 abandoned and unwanted dogs, all of whom need food and shelter as well as toys and the occasional treat.
All the items donated will be given to the dogs to enjoy while Jerry Green Dog Rescue looks for a suitable new home for them.
Catherine Foster, head of fundraising at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “Around Valentine’s Day we all like to make a loved one feel special, and by spending just a few pounds you can make our dogs feel truly loved.
“We’re asking dog lovers to help mend a broken heart by filling a shoebox with delicious treats and exciting toys for the dogs in our care.
“We would welcome donations of dog biscuits, gravy bones, chews, kongs – anything that will help our dogs to enjoy the time they spend with us.”
Jerry Green Dog Rescue, which was founded in 1961, rescues, cares for and re-homes abandoned and unwanted dogs and undertakes never to put a dog to sleep unless its health or temperament make this the kindest option.
Anyone who would like to donate a shoebox of toys and treats this Valentine’s Day please take your donation to your nearest Jerry Green Dog Rescue Centre, ideally between February 9 and 16.
