The Met Office is warning of gales of up to 80mph on the first day of Lincoln Christmas Market.

An amber ‘be prepared’ warning indicates Westerly gales are expected to spread southwards across northern and central areas of the UK, with widespread gusts of 60 to 70 mph.

It goes on the say that within the area of the amber warning gusts are expected to reach 80 mph in places.

Oh well it makes a change from "Snow caused the market closure in 2010" in just about every report to do with the market for the last three years.

Lincoln_fan i have checked the met office site and they say that the gusts will get up to a maximum of 55mph tomorrow so it looks like exaggerating to me

The BBC weather forecast says 30mph winds. Is the Echo exaggerating for punchy headlines?
