Lincoln City boss Gary Simpson revealed he was on the phone for eight hours yesterday as he tried to do more business during the January transfer window.

Simpson has several targets still on his radar and has already snared Delano Sam-Yorke and Mitch Austin on loan from Cambridge United, with the duo available for Saturday’s clash against Luton Town in the Skrill Premier at Sincil Bank.

The Imps boss talked candidly about Lincoln City’s chances of signing Karl Ledsham, Jon Parkin, Arnaud Mendy, Hamza Bencherif and Chris Sharp and also the future of Adi Yussuf and Karl Cunningham.

KARL LEDSHAM – on loan at Cambridge United from Southport

“I felt we needed a goalscoring midfield player, and he got 15 goals from midfield last season. I think he’s lost his way a bit and I thought he was a player I’d like to try and get back on the rails. He was well courted at the end of the last season, but for one reason or another he did not end up moving. I’ve had his agent ringing around about loan deals, that’s how he’s ended up at Cambridge, because at the time we couldn’t do it. He’s still in my thoughts, but I don’t know what the situation is at Southport, whether they want to keep him or not.”

JON PARKIN – Fleetwood

“He’s got back in the team, but when you start breaking the financial package down to bring him, it was a non-starter. I’ve tried to sign him two or three times. I know him. It’s more complicated than a straight forward ‘I’ll sign you’, there is a lot more involved and the financial package would have been half my wage bill.”

ARNAUD MENDY – unattached

“I have spoken to him. He’s rung me from France. His dad is ill at the moment, we don’t know where he is fitness wise. He’s been at Luton, who paid a bit of cash for him. It’s not worked for the lad, but he’s gone back to France because his dad is ill. He’s a free agent.”

HAMZA BENCHERIF

“I spoke to Hamza when we played Plymouth and it was something that might have happened in the January. He’s gone back to Algeria for 18 months with a club, and the package he’s got there again is something you can’t blame him for taking.”

CHRIS SHARP – Hereford United

“Sharp has been playing now for Hereford. We got him back playing and now he’s gone back there and Hereford have picked up some good wins. He’s done well, so I cannot see anything happening there. The financial package was a good one when he came here, but I don’t think we could do that again.”

ADI YUSSUF – Lincoln City

“We’re trying to come some kind of agreement with him. It’s between him, his agent and the chairman now. I feel really sorry for him. He’s had two-and-a-half years of injury after injury, after injury. Unfortunately we can’t just keep waiting and every time we seem to get him fit, something else will go. I’ve no doubt that the kid will get fixed up and I have no doubt that if he can stay clear of injuries he could be a very good player, but we are not in a position to carry him and wait and see. It frees a little bit of money up and room up so I can get someone else in.”

KARL CUNNINGHAM – Lincoln City

“We got to speak to Karl. It’s something that was sorted before I came here. I’ve got to speak to Grant Brown and then we will come to a decision.”

How do you know Cunningham had a "fall out" with Holdsworth franky? I'd be interested to know.

Holdsworth had a falling out with Cunningham, just as you have with Waide Fairhurst GS, The club needs to give the boy a fair chance. I wonder how many Mngrs destroy youngsters before there career has even begun. like other people have said on here we do loose some good prospects without them getting a run in the 1st team. come on boys
