Lincoln City boss Gary Simpson was surprised by Gateshead's slow start to the season but insists his side will face a much-improved team tonight.
After a weekend break, the Imps return to Skrill Premier duty tonight against Gary Mills' side which are rapidly climbing the table.
After Anth Smith was sacked earlier in the campaign, Mills has taken the Heed on a great run and took League Two promotion-chasers Oxford to a FA Cup first round replay.
They only succumbed to a 1-0 defeat after extra-time and Simpson is well aware of their threat.
"Since Gary Mills has gone in they've picked up," he said.
"Looking at the players they have signed in the summer, people up there thought they would be challenging with the signings made.
"It was a bit of a surprise that they got off to such a bad start, but Gary has gone in and got them going.
"If anybody saw the game against Oxford in the FA Cup you can see they pass the ball well.
"They have been on a great run."
