Lincoln City have signed centre-back Scott Garner on loan from Cambridge United.

The 6ft 2ins defender joins from the U's on a deal which will keep him at the 12th Imp Sincil Bank Stadium until January 2, 2013.

The former Leicester City youngster, 23, has worked with Imps boss David Holdsworth previously at Ilkeston and Mansfield Town before moving to Grimsby in 2010.

"It is good to bring Garner, he has played a lot at this level and that is something we will really benefit from at the back," said Holdsworth.

"We needed to look at cover in defence, Andrew Boyce picked up his fourth booking of the season the other day and if he was to get suspended then that would leave us in a sticky situation.

"I've known Garner for a long time and it is great to bring him in.

"He is tall and gets his head up their first and is also mobile, so he will be a big asset for us."

Garner could be in contention for the Imps' match at home to Braintree Town tomorrow night in the Blue Square Bet Premier, kick-off 7.45pm.

old lincolnia: you obviously did not watch Garner against Woking. I'm not picking on JP, Garner was found out in that game, IMO his legs have gone. come on boys- bring on grimsby

Can't agree with you JP, from what I saw on SAT he just has not got the pace or turning ability he had at Grimsby, I don't think he even ventured forward for any corners either, the Woking players were just leaving him standing, nobody will replace Tom Miller, he has so much abilty and calmness at the back, as we found out on SAT without him. And give the armband back to him permanent, he is a very outstanding and totaly committed player. come on boys

Cookie 83: Sorry but after watching Garner last night against Woking you can have him back as far as I'm concerned, but on this one your management team did well to get rid. He played CB and was like a carthorse from start to finish. I am just hoping Tom Miller is not injured as with him I don't think we would have conceded any goals, he is such a organised covering centre back in games, and with the armband on as well, and as for Mill's performance it was diabolical, especially as team captain. All he was doing was loseing the ball, puttinu us under pressure, having go's at his team mates and upsetting their games, and not getting his own game in order. Come on wake up DH you have done so well up to now. come on boys

Some oiks find being positive too much to cope with. No poor results to moan about, so they try to pick on Pakey...and get it wrong!! How sad can they get?

Good signing for you in my opinion. Was surprised myself when we released him in the Summer. Played nearly all the games during the unbeaten run we went on last season. He got injured and thats when we faltered. Hope he doesnt haunt us over the festive period. Will be dissapointed if we give him a bad reception , as he never let us down.

"remember last Boxing Day?" Sadly I do. Should be a decent signing for us. A win tonight would keep the little run going, I imagine Braintree will be just glad to have a game and will be interesting to see how we get on against their fresh legs.

That's changed! Pleased with the signing? Has played a lot of games at this level, that will bring a little bit more knowledge to Lincoln defence. And we also know how deadly he can be from set pieces - remember last Boxing Day?

"by theoutworker Monday, November 05 2012, 5:44PM . "Kick off @ 3pm? Come on Pakey get it right." Or, should that read... "Wakey, wakey, Pakey!"
