TRAIN trips from Lincoln to London, costing just £1, are rapidly selling out.

Rail operator East Coast, which is launching a direct rail service between the two cities on May 22, is offering 1,000 bargain fares for the first week.

Passengers were able to book their journey for any day between May 22 and May 28 inclusive via the firm's website, but all many of the 1,000 cheap fares have sold out already.

The trips are available one-way, but passengers are also able to book a second journey from London back to Lincoln for £1 – making a total of £2 for a round trip.

Spokesman ohn Gelson said: "The offer is selling well and we expect to sell all of the tickets by the end of the day. Keep checking the site for the latest availability."

On Monday to Friday, the service departs Lincoln at 7.20am and arrives in London at 9.28am.

It then leaves London at 7.06pm and arrives in Lincoln at 9.01pm.

On Saturdays, the service departs Lincoln at 9.30am and arrives at King's Cross at 11.26am.

It then departs London at 6.08pm, arriving back in Lincoln at 8.03pm.

Let the train take the strain, on the tracks  |  March 05 2011, 8:31AM

Avin alaf, I would suggest you don't use trains very often! I have just checked the same service I have my £1 tickets for and the return fare for 2 adults and 1 child would be £48 and if you invested in a family and friends railcard it would reduce down to £29! So I don't know where you get £300 from!! I also recently went to London from Newark and paid £24 return for 1 adult and 2 children with a railcard and Lincoln to Edinburgh for £21 return, you just can't beat a bargain on the trains!!

I checked the link as given and for two adults and one toddler the cheapest deal was £300, we can get a taxi for less!

Did you miss out on the cheap tickets, then, Lynn? Not so much full of 'cheap-skating humanity' as you so poetically put it, but people who were up earlier than you, quicker off the mark than you, and just generally more clued up. The trains will be no more crowded than usual, because only a proportion of the seats were sold cheaply. And I think you'll find that those who were smart enough to get the £1 seats are likely to be a lot better off than you might imagine. The rich didn't get rich by wasting money......

Too good to be true, then it probably is, as one poster has remarked the trains will be packed to the rafters, sardines in a tin, cheek by smelly, sweaty jowl in a confined space full of cheap-skating humanity. No thanks.

I don't think Alan Partridge would be taking up this offer!

I don't think they ever had any intention of selling any on the saturday. I refreshed every 30 seconds from 9am and at no point were there any tickets for one pound. I took screenshots to show this so hopefully they will do something about it.

Well I tried booking for the 28th and although every weekday showed a ticket on this offer the Saturday didn't. I tried from before 9am and even contacted their help line and the guy I spoke to had no idea about it but eventually said try after 9 and it will work. Still didn't work so I'm emailing them to see what they'll do about it.
