Identity claims are beginning to emerge surrounding the Lincoln clown.
Social media fun, cryptic emails and claims from local musicians are all adding to the mystery behind the identity of the Lincolnshire clowns.
Emails sent to the Lincolnshire Echo have included tip-offs and even a riddle that gives a nod to Pennywise the clown from Stephen King's 'It'- taking note of his catchphrase.
"Beep Beep- I'm the Lincoln clown. I only come round when the sun goes down. I never frown."
A local folk group last night claimed to be behind the clown saga but later admitted they had nothing to do with it and it was simply a publicity stunt.
On social media Tweeters have joked about being the clown and also accused others.
Wonder when It's best to own up that I'm the Lincoln Clown...

Clowns have allegedly been spotted across Lincoln after first being seen just outside of Lincolnshire in Retford.
Other sightings in the county have come from Market Rasen.
Lincolnshire Police have said that reported sightings of clowns, such as Lincoln Clown, throughout the county should be treated as a bit of fun at this stage.
James Newall, spokesman for Lincolnshire Police, said: "At this stage if these incidents are happening nobody is reporting them.
"If someone feels threatened or intimidated they should call police otherwise it is just a bit of fun."
The local clown sightings follow the appearance of a creepy clown in Northampton.
Northampton clown became a global sensation and was finally unmasked as Alex Powell, a university student who wanted to 'amuse' people.
