A restaurant has apologised after a waitress allegedly told two women "lesbians aren't real couples".

The pair were enjoying a Valentine's Day meal at Damon's in Doddington Road, Lincoln.

Liz Ross, 25, from Cromwell near Newark, was with Hayley Simpson, 21, of nearby Balderton.

She said: "I went on Valentine's Day with Hayley, my girlfriend, as we knew it had nice food and good service.

"I noticed as I was paying the bill all the girls were getting roses.

"Hayley went to the toilet and I asked if I could get one.

"The waitress said we couldn't have one because they were for couples.

"I said we were a lesbian couple, but she told us 'lesbians aren't real couples'."

In a letter to the couple, operations manager Keith Gee said the business took a "strong stance" on homophobia.

"This is the first time we have ever had a sexuality complaint within our last 24 years in business from either guests or staff," he said.

"On behalf of the company please accept my sincere apologies."

"anyway dont all you Lesbians/Gays have your own Bar's/Clubs/Cafe's to go to these days....." Yeah, they're just down the road from all the black people's bars/clubs/cafes. You know, opposite the Asian taxi rank and the single parent's cash machine.

If the waitress had only said " I can't give you a rose because you're from Newark" Everyone would have accepted that and understood.

"Slow news day? This happened nearly a month ago. Get over it girls and move on. Six British lads have just been blown to pieces in Afghanistan, now thats what i call a bad day, just don't go to the damn restaurant again" So anything less important than that shouldn't be reported on? Well that would include Grimsby's football matches, then, wouldn't it? DURRR!

Has it crossed anyones mind that the waitress may have thought it was a wind up and just gave, what she thought, a light hearted response? The women must have very thin skin to cause such a fuss. Never mind, maybe if they received any money from the Daily Mail, for their article and photo's, it may ease their hurt.(That's unless they read what the DM readers have posted.)
