Lincolnshire mum of two earns £15k testing sex toys

A mum of two from Gainsborough earns £15k a year through testing and reviewing sex toys.

Cara Houiellebecq, 34, lives with her partner Darren Douglas, 38, her mother-in-law and her two children aged 9 and 20 months.

She is having up to 15 orgasms a week and has an office crammed with more than 2,000 toys.

Cara worked at a sex toy website for two years before leaving in February 2012 to set up on her own - and she has now won Best Erotic Journalist at the ETO awards for two consecutive years.

She has manufacturers from all over Britain sending her free toys to be reviewed and she also writes articles for companies as an industry consultant.

Speaking about her career she said: “I didn’t receive any criticism, it’s a very positive industry. Even when I told friends I had a blog talking about bedroom accessories and sex toys they didn’t give it a second thought; my circle of friends are very forward thinking and love to go to Ann Summers parties for a giggle and a good time.”

She makes her money through on-site adverts which she sells to industry companies and writing articles as an industry consultant.

“I have built a solid brand for my blog in the adult industry and as an award winning industry writer I am in demand to write about products and sexuality topics,” she said.

“My sex toy reviews are still an incredibly important part of my site, but they are written free of charge merely in exchange for the product. This keeps the review unbiased and fair.”

She works 35 hours a week in an office separate to the house.

“My earnings are continually on the rise and the more prolific I become in the adult industry (including writing many product reviews) the more this continues,” she said.

She met her partner when they both worked for Sextoys.co.uk and he has worked in the industry for over ten years in the IT department.

“My family know about what I do but they don’t ask any questions and certainly don’t disapprove,” she added.

“Products are used and tested in the privacy of my bedroom therefore it’s not something that concerns anyone other than my partner, in that way. When it comes to the blog, it’s 18+ only and under a different pseudonym than my real name.”

Cara has also launched her own range of products available for sale - the Fantasy by Cara Sutra beginner’s bondage kit, in black or red.
