On Saturday 1st September i attended a charity evening to raise money for a great cause, L.I.V.E.S. The night was a huge success and everyone involved had a great time and raised a lot of money. But what i was blown away by was the local band Lock Up Laura that played at the event. Now, i had heard of this band previously through friends and heard that they were good, but what i saw was fantastic. First of all what a group of nice young men, very gracious and very talented. When i heard that there was going to be a rock band playing, myself and my partner were intrigued as this isn't necessarily the sort of music associated with such an event, but the original music, although loud, was catchy, had people dancing on the dance floor, and was a breath of fresh air. Until the acoustic part followed. 2 members left the stage area, and left the vocalist, and the 2 guitarists to bring out their acoustic guitars, and what followed was incredible. When the first song started you could hear a pin drop as a melancholic vocal line, complimented the guitar work, the only way i can describe it was mesmerising. A beautiful song from start to finish. I believe it was called No More. Then the second song began, a song we were told had only been decided upon that day, and wasn't really even finished yet. Again, we sat there spellbound at the thoughfull guitarwork and compelling melody. What another great song. The acoustic set finished the band had everyone back on their feet again, with a rowdy cover of Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet, and it was like being at another event. The band played a few more heavier songs, had the whole crowd clapping and singing and dancing and cheering and then they graciously thanked us, the audience, for our kindness and vacated the stage. It left me thinking 'what have i just watched?' I felt as though i had witnessed the early start of something soon to be monstrous. I have never seen a rock band have everyone up and dancing, never mind whilst everyone is wearing ball gowns and tuxedos, and the next moment be able to hear a pin drop. Great night, great guys, but most importantly, great, exciting music. Watch this space, Lock Up Laura are here, and i for one, cannot wait to see them again!!
