Louth's Arran Brindle hit 37 not out and took one wicket as England kick-started their World Cup campaign with a 32-run win over hosts India this morning in Mumbai.

While Brindle's stand helped her team-mates reach 272, the bulk of the runs were scored by captain Charlotte Edwards, who hit a 109 to become the highest run-scorer in women's one-day international cricket.

England then went at India with the ball and reduced them to 240 for nine, with Brindle claiming one wicket in her seven overs.

With West Indies beating Sri Lanka in Sunday's other Group A game, England know victory over the Windies on Tuesday will seal them a spot in the Super Six stage.
