Sam Lowes finished eighth after clinching his maiden front-row start for yesterday’s Moto2 race at Mugello.
The Lincoln rider stunned his rivals by qualifying second in Saturday’s session at the Italian circuit.
But in an ultra-competitive field, staying in the top three was always going to be a tall order for the Speed Up rider – and so it proved.
However, struggling with a lack of rear grip, Lowes did a commendable job to come home in eighth after holding off a charging Maverick Vinales.
Round seven of the series is the Catalunya MotoGP in Barcelona on June 15.
