Moy Park awards prestigious scholarship to Harpar Adam's student

A LINCOLNSHIRE student has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to further her studies for a career in the poultry industry.

Amy Sharpe from Woodhall Spa, who is studying BSc Agriculture degree at Harpar Adam's University, has received the British Poultry Council Scholarship from Moy Park.

The BPC aims to encourage more young adults into the poultry sector by offering 16 scholarships to second year degree students and first year FdSc students studying in agriculture or food production.

A condition of the scholarship is that the recipient must undertake their placement year with the awarding firm.

Amy, 20, said: "I am really pleased to receive the scholarship from Moy Park, as it gives me the opportunity to learn all aspects of chicken production setting me up well for a future career in the poultry industry.

"I am grateful to Moy Park and the ladies in the Development Trust office for making this opportunity possible, a fantastic bonus of Harper Adams and a huge financial support in my placement year."

Amy received the scholarship, worth up to £7,000, at the annual Harper Adams University Development Trust Scholarship Presentation.

Anthony Burgess, chairman of the Development Trust, said: "This is the seventh year of awards. In 2006/07 we made 21 awards of £17,000. This year we made 99 awards of £225,000.

"I thank our sponsors, our professional team and the academics who give their time voluntarily. Finally, we come to our students. Well done and congratulations."
