An iconic North East Lincolnshire landmark will be transformed into a community-owned and managed venue under new plans.
The Pier at Cleethorpes has been acquired in a deal that will see it safeguarded for future community ownership.
In the short term, the doors will be opened as an entertainment venue, which will be much more traditional in its offerings than the previous, multiple failed nightclub plans.
Ideas for the venue include wedding receptions, conferences, tearooms, craft market and entertainment that focus on the Pier as a dance and concert hall.
The project – spearheaded by local businessman Bryan Huxford – is steered by a number of local business people and representatives who are keen to see the region regenerated and a genuine sense of local pride restored.
Mr Huxford said: “This has the potential to be very exciting and could create jobs, boost skills and give people across North East Lincolnshire a venue to really be proud of.
“But we’re not getting ahead of ourselves at this stage because we know The Pier will only truly survive and thrive with the support of local people.
“We will be opening public consultations very soon and hope that lots of local people will choose to get involved in deciding the future of a great regional landmark.”
