Police have launched a new operation to tackle hare coursing as the number of incidents continues to rise.

A specialist team to combat the problem has been set up as part of Operation Galileo, which will run during the typical coursing season from September until March.

Inspector Andy Ham, of Lincolnshire Police, said: "Hare coursing, as well as being illegal, causes disruption, inconvenience and alarm to members of our rural communities.

"Evidence shows that the type of people who participate in it are often involved in other forms of criminal activity.

"Having a dedicated team will enable us to not only respond quickly to reports and calls from the public, but it will also mean that we can improve the way in which we gather intelligence, monitor activities, patterns and locations."

To report any incidents or suspicions of hare coursing, call police on 101.
