Reseach has revealed the most bizarre purchases that british people have made when they were drunk.

The results compiled by Confused.com showed that nearly a quarter of brits admitted to overspending on their credit cards when they'd been drinking - with an average spend of £142.

Some of the bizarre drunken purchases people admitted to included ten lobster pots, a pie maker, diving equipment, a folding ladder and a washing machine.

Other common purchases included DVDs and CDs, some went as far as booking themselves a holiday or concert tickets and some upgraded their technology with new TVs and new phones.

Amazon was used by 53 per cent of drunk spenders and 50 per cent used the Dutch courage.

Nerys Lewis, Head of Credit Cards at Confused.com, said: "Alcohol can cause people’s inhibitions to disappear but people need to be aware of how their credit card spending when drunk could affect them in the long run.

"Consumers need to be careful that purchases made when drunk don’t cause them financial problems in the future."
