  • Traffic and pedestrians were diverted as police dealt with an incident at Lincoln YMCA.

  • A mattress and other items of furniture were thrown from a window.

  • Police were forced to enter the building after negotiators could not resolve the issue.

A man staying at the YMCA in Lincoln barricaded himself in his room and caused damage to the property, throwing furniture through the window.

Police were called to the incident on St Rumbold's Street at around 4:30pm and were forced to close a section of St Rumbold's Street and Croft Street to traffic and pedestrians.

The man refused to leave his room and smashed the window with a stool, then throwing several items onto the passage below, including a mattress.

Negotiators tried to talk to the man who had threatened to inflict self-harm on himself.

After he refused to reason, police officers entered the room and removed him.

The man is not thought to have serious injuries but was taken to Lincoln County Hospital for treatment.

He was then taken into custody in Lincoln whilst police carry out investigations into the incident.

Croft Street and St Rumbold's Street were re-opened at around 6pm.
