Lincolnshire Police are warning about possible rogue traders in Horncastle

Comments (1)

POLICE in Horncastle are asking residents to be on the alert for rogue traders.

Yesterday afternoon, officers were alerted that workmen had cold-called at the Horncastle home of a 90 year-old man and offered to carry out garden maintenance work for a large sum of money.

A spokesman from Lincolnshire Police said: “The law offers protection to consumers who buy goods or services at the door and workmen must provide certain pieces of written documentation, including a Notice of the Right to Cancel.

“The workman in this incident had not complied with regulations and police intervened before any money was handed over. Further police and Trading Standards enquiries will continue.”

Police are advising people to make sure you know what your rights are so you can protect yourself and your vulnerable neighbours from doorstep crime.

Don't hand over any payment until the work is completed, if they don't like it tell they where to go. I am supprised there are not more handymen about to do work for a reasonable price as many of them do a better job than many tradesmen I have found.
