The hot weather caused a shock to one resident after the sun overheated a solar panel, setting fire to a fence.

Firefighters were called to the property on Southfields, in Sleaford, after reports of a blaze.

A neighbour was able to put the fire out before the fire crew from Sleaford arrived.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said rays from the sun are believed to have overheated the solar light heat panel, which was on a fence.

There was fire damage to a fence panel and guttering on the house after the incident, which happened at around 6.15pm.

It came in the same night that another fire crew had to help free a woman from railings after she impaled her leg.

Firefighters were also called to help a one-year-old child which had become stuck in a drain by its foot.
