Former South African president Nelson Mandela has died at the age of 95.

There had been reports yesterday of friends and family gathering at his house in the South African Johannesburg suburb of Houghton.

Mr Mandela was being watched over at home with round-the-clock care since September, after battling a three-month long lung infection.

Tributes have already started pouring in from across the world.

Prime Minster David Cameron has asked for the flag at No10 to be flown at half mast, calling him a "hero of our time" on social media.

Mr Mandela became South Africa's first black president in 1994, earning the respect of millions by fighting against racism.
