New dad and part-time inventor Colin Furze has built the world's fastest pram...with an incredible top speed of 50mph!

Plumber Colin has fitted a powerful 125cc motorbike engine to his three-wheeler metal pushchair, built in the workshop at his home in Lonsdale Road, Stamford.

As well an accelerator and brake levers and four gears to make it easier going up and down hills there's even space for shopping and a useful drinks holder.

Colin spent four weeks and just £450 designing and building the petrol-powered super-pram after his girlfriend Charlotte became pregnant.

"I had the idea after everyone I told I was going to be a dad said they bet I was going to make some crazy baby gadget - so I did," he said.

"It just seemed the most sensible thing to put an engine in a pram - and the megapram was born."

And with three other world records under his belt - the largest bonfire, the longest motorbike and the fastest speed on a mobility scooter - Colin was determined that his latest invention should also be a record-breaker.

He applied to Guinness to set the record as there wasn't one already in existence.

To scoop the title the pram need to reach at least 30mph.

But he managed to smash that speed on his 33rd birthday, on October 14th - the date he makes all his record attempts.

Colin, who now has a five-week old son Jake, stands on a platform on the pram and uses buttons on the handle to start and stop the engine.

"First off I tried skateboard wheels but they melted at speed.

"Then I tried some heavy-duty fixed castors, but the vibration after 20mph made my legs go numb.

"In the end I was lucky my good mate at Stamford Mobility Scooters gave me some really small mobility scooter wheels and these are brilliant."

But, unfortunately for Colin, he's not allowed to use the pram with his son inside.

"It's not legal to use on the road, which is a shame, but that's the modern world we live in," he added.

Oh Colin where was your invention 20 years ago? As a car- less parent with three young children to get to nursery, school, scouts ect. I could have done with something like this..legalised of course.
