Theatre programme promises classics, comedies and dance

The Palace Theatre in Newark has announced plans for its new 2013 season, revealing shows for the first few months of the new year.

A Viennese Strauss Gala kicks off the fun after the pantomime on Sunday, January 20 (7.30pm), recreating the romance of the Viennese Festive season. A Midsummer Night's Dream follows on Thursday and Friday, February 14-15 (7.30pm) from Sell A Door who are promising to reveal the darker side of this much-loved comedy.

Paul Carrack returns to the Palace to celebrate his latest album, Good Feeling, on Saturday, February 23 (7.30pm). Also making a return visit is Ballet Theatre UK after the success of A Christmas Carol, with their production of Alice in Wonderland (Thursday, April 18, 7.30pm).

The theatre will continue its commitment to community performances throughout the season – highlights include New Youth Theatre presenting 13 on Monday, March 11 (7.30pm) and Broadway and Beyond (Tuesday and Wednesday, March 12-13, 7.30pm), and Newark Amateur Operatic Society presenting their production of Annie (Tuesday to Saturday, March 19-23, 7.30pm plus Saturday matinee at 2.30pm).

Business manager at the Palace Theatre, Carys Coulton-Jones, says: "Once again I feel we are able to offer something for everyone with this new season and already we have seen these shows warmly welcomed. We look forward to welcoming the community to the theatre this new year."
