Award-winning movie actors, MPs, lords and councillors are among the trustees and patrons appointed to the Historic Lincoln Trust.

The charity was set up to raise vital funds to transform Lincoln Castle. A further £2 million is needed to supplement the Heritage Lottery Fund grant for the Lincoln Castle Revealed project.

Work has already started on the £19.9 million project, which includes the creation of the Heritage Skills Centre, repairs to the castle walls and state-of-the-art vault underneath the grounds to house the city's copy of the Magna Carta.

In April, former MP for South Staffordshire and member of the House of Lords, Sir Patrick Cormack, was appointed as chairman of the trustees.

He has now appointed ten others to join him, including Baroness Sarah Hogg, an economic and journalist, Dean of Lincoln Cathedral The Very Reverend Philip Buckler, and Eddy Poll, Lincolnshire County Council's executive member for cultural services.

Seventeen patrons have also been appointed for the charity, including Lincoln MP Karl McCartney, The Bishop of Lincoln The Right Reverend Christopher Lowson and film, television and theatre actor Jim Broadbent.

Lord Cormack also said that the trust had "ambitious plans" to mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta in 2015, to be announced in the near future.
