Sir David Attenborough visited Lincoln to open a new exhibition about Sir Joseph Banks, at The Collection.
The exhibition entitled Joseph Banks, A Great Endeavour: A Lincolnshire Gentleman and His Legacy at The Collection is open to the public.
Sir David Attenborough said: “Banks was the greatest figure in the British arts in the 18th Century.
“He was a great administrator and hugely wealthy. He was president of the Royal Society for 42 years.
“He paid for eight people to travel on the expedition with Cook to document the findings including artists to sketch and paint what they saw. He became a great celebrity after the voyage and a very important figure in British society.”
