LINCOLN'S new AHF store was given a warm welcome by shoppers – on the city's busiest weekend of the year.

As hundreds of thousands of visitors poured into the city for the four-day Christmas market the new AHF furniture superstore on the Valentine Retail Park was officially opened.

Mayor of Lincoln Coun Kathleen Brothwell and Lincolnshire Echo competition winner Mrs Carol Espin performed the honours on Friday, cutting a ribbon to declare the store open.

AHF sales and marketing director Matt Hesketh said: "Our new store was very well received.

"The Mayor said she thought it was fantastic and customers said they loved the layout of the store and the coffee bar area."

Reader Mrs Carol Espin, of Nettleham, scooped £1,000 to spend at the new store in a recent Echo competition, plus the chance to get involved with the official opening.

She said: "It was a great 50th birthday present for me.

"I had a lovely time opening the store with the Mayor and my husband, Malcolm.

"I am now looking forward to buying some new carpeting for the living room we've just decorated with my prize."
