Dan, Alice, Larry and Anna – four people whose lives become inextricably linked as they make connections which entangle one another emotionally and physically.

Common Ground Theatre Company will be tackling the complications of fractured relationships when it stages its latest production, Closer by Patrick Marber, at Lincoln Drill Hall on July 5-7.

An intense four-hander, the play intricately focuses on the politics of people trading partners for lust.

A successful stage production, Closer was also adapted into a 2004 film starring Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Jude Law and Clive Owen.

Common Ground's production will star Adrian Snow as Dan and Stephen Gillard as Larry along with Common Ground newcomers Natalie Reed (Anna) and Kimi Hunter (Alice).

Making her Lincoln debut as a director, Alex Thornton says she has been keen to stage the play for years.

"Closer can be hard viewing at times; it's tough and gritty but it's also romantic, heart-wrenching and incredibly funny," says Alex.

"The Room Upstairs is the perfect venue for such an intense play and I am so proud to be directing this show."

Audience information: Closer contains adult themes and strong language, so is recommended for 16 years and over only.

Closer, The Room Upstairs, Lincoln Drill Hall on Thursday to Friday, July 5-7 (8pm). Tickets: £8 (£6 concs). Box office: 01522 873894, www.lincolndrillhall.com
