A camera-shy military wife has surprised her husband with an album full of semi-naked prints.
Sam Shand, 44, from Scopwick was so self-conscious she didn’t even have a photographer at her wedding to husband Jon.
But she was transformed after a photography shoot by Helen Booth, founder of Barnsley-based Masque Photography.
Her RAF hubby has even had one of them recreated as a tattoo on his calf.
Sam took the plunge and stripped to her underwear for a series of tasteful prints and says it has given her a massive confidence boost when Jon was on a six-month tour of Afghanistan in his role with the RAF police.
“If you speak to any military wife, you get to a low ebb when your partner is away,” she explained.
“The initial two weeks is a novelty and you go back to being single person coping on your own but halfway through their tour the loneliness kicks in, not just for me but for Jon too.
“Communication is limited in Afghanistan and it’s not the same as having the person next to you. Really the photos were an ego boost for me, especially as we didn’t have any wedding photos.
“I’m hopeless at having my photo taken and really don’t like it. It was a really big step for me to have photos taken professionally but also scantily-clad because I’m very conscious of my body.”
Sam chose Masque Photography because it’s exclusively run by women, with a professional hair and make-up stylist.
"It was absolutely fabulous because I was made to feel so incredibly welcome and I had time to settle in whilst having a gorgeous make-over. The make-up artist made me feel really comfortable and I really got into the swing of it,” she said
“I was worried about it feeling cheesy but it didn’t at all. Helen was encouraging but not pushy.”
Jon knew nothing about the photos until Sam sent them over.
Jon is now back home after completing 22 years service with the RAF and the photos are on display in the couple’s bedroom.
