Manager-less Boston United ended their seven-match winless run in ruthless fashion as Droylsden were hammered 5-1 at the Jakemans Stadium.

Following last weekend's humiliating 4-0 defeat at Vauxhall Motors, the Pilgrims delivered the perfect response, but they were made to come from behind to register a morale-boosting victory.

Droylsden made the brighter start and were rewarded when Steve Hall drilled home from the edge of the box in the 23rd minute.

By that stage, the visitors had already missed a penalty when Dan Haystead kept out Carlos Logan's tame spot-kick.

However, Boston were not behind for long as Spencer Weir-Daley converted his 49th goal for the club eight minutes later.

The home side then surged in front when Mark Jones nodded home a Ben Milnes corner. Not to be outdone by his fellow strikers, Marc Newsham got in on the act by making it 3-1 before half-time.

Newsham struck again in the 62nd minute to end any chance of a fightback from the lowly Bloods.

Substitute James Reed added number five late on when his long-range effort took a massive deflection and looped into the net.

Attention now shifts to United's next manager, with the club set to confirm Jason Lee's successor early next week.
