Marc Newsham missed a last-gasp penalty as Boston United's revival was brought to a dramatic halt at Bradford Park Avenue.
Trailing 2-1, the Pilgrims won a spot-kick in the fifth minute of added time when substitute Kallum Smith was tripped in the box.
But the usually reliable Newsham saw his weak penalty saved by Bradford keeper Tim Deasy. It proved to be the last kick of the game.
Earlier, Mark Jones marked his return to the starting line-up with a second half equaliser which cancelled out Nathan Hotte's first half opener.
However, United found themselves 2-1 down when poor defending led to Matty James restoring Avenue's lead.
The Pilgrims' new signing, central defender Sam Craven, was an unused substitute.
