A construction company's managing director swapped his desk and hard hat for a bicycle to raise money in a gruelling 300-mile bike ride from London to Paris.

Lindum Construction MD Simon Gregory was one of a group of nine business people from Lincoln who took part in the charity ride, starting at Crystal Palace and finishing under the Eiffel Tower four days later – raising in excess of £25,000 between them for local charities.

He presented part of the money raised – a cheque for £3,752 – to Lincoln first responders charity Lives.

Mr Gregory said: "What started out as a daft idea this time last year, turned into a great experience and, thanks to many generous sponsors, has resulted in a large amount of money being raised.

"I'm delighted to donate this money to Lives, a local charity that makes a real difference to people in Lincolnshire."

Stephen Hyde, marketing and fundraising officer for Lives, said: "This will go a long way in supporting our activities and we are very grateful."
